Why do I create ASMR videos?

The answer you have all been waiting for... This is by far my most asked question ever!

Let’s rewind…

I have always felt ASMR 'tingles' since as long as I can remember. I always enjoyed getting my hair brushed, roleplaying as children, and even liked visiting the doctors. I would feel goosebumps or a cold shiver starting in my scalp and running down towards the bottom of my back, known now as ASMR 'tingles'. Although I never really knew what I was feeling, or why I was feeling this sensation, what I do know, is that I really enjoyed it.

Around 4 years ago, when I had just started at university, I discovered ASMR videos for the very first time. I had stumbled upon Gibi ASMR's Cork Scratching for Relaxation video. ASMR videos have helped me in a time of stress and struggle. I was in an unfamiliar place, having dealt with something extremely personal, and ASMR almost felt like a spring awakening. ASMR helped me to overcome personal situations, from late-night study sessions to understanding grief, and to grow as an individual.

I remember spending the next few weeks just finding myself watching more and more videos, feeling relaxed, calm and just like myself again. I personally found that personal attention and realistic role-plays (cranial nerve exam, eye test, or spa) were the most optimal ASMR videos for me as that's when I felt the ASMR 'tingles' the most.

What does ASMR mean to me?

Personally, ASMR is a sense of comfort. It’s familiar, nostalgic, and personal. It is something that is a part of who I am, as cliche as that sounds. I genuinely LOVE the 'tingle' feeling. I just wish I had found it sooner. I thoroughly enjoy watching ASMR because it makes me feel happy and positive. I find that ASMR has a way of relieving any stress or worries, and helps me to go about my everyday life.

Why did I decide to create ASMR videos?

I often find this question a difficult one to answer on the spot because there is no singular reason as to why I create ASMR videos. Everything just sort of fell into place.

Firstly...

After watching ASMR videos for around 6 months, I thought to myself... "Is this something I could do? Do I have a calming presence? Do I have a calming voice? Would anyone benefit from listening to me? But more than that, can I help others just like how Gibi, Sophie, and Tingting have helped me? Turns out, after listening to what people were saying to me, I realised that I actually do have a nice voice as it's soft and well-spoken.

Secondly...

Quite simply, I really wanted to try it out! I have always been interested in content creating, especially photography and videography. I am a freelance photographer, so being creative is something that I have a huge interest for. As for creating videos, I have had previous YouTube channels before, mainly vlogging channels and ones to use for college work. For me, filming ASMR videos are fun, creative, and knowing I can help individuals is just fantastic!

Thirdly...

I just love experiencing ASMR myself. I love feeling relaxed. I love feeling the 'tingles'. For me, IT JUST FELT RIGHT!

More importantly, I wanted to give back to the amazing ASMR community. I felt like I had something that I could contribute, so I did it!

It has honestly been one of the best decisions of my life. I have made so many friends, and spoken to so many people about ASMR and the phenomenon that it is. It is so overwhelming at times, especially as how open people are about how ASMR, not just my videos, but in general how it has helped them. It is a very welcoming and open community and I am so honoured to be apart of it.

I feel extremely passionate about ASMR, creating ASMR, and the power ASMR has to positively change lives. It has certainly changed mine. I create and share ASMR videos because I want to help others overcome and understand situations, just like how Gibi initially helped me. It is something that I will be forever grateful for!
